At the end of April 2026, China's Ministry of Education introduced 38 new undergraduate majors. They can recruit students from the 2026 gaokao onwards, bringing the national catalogue to 883 majors.

The new majors include energy science and engineering, deep-earth science and engineering, agricultural robotics, biotechnology manufacturing, brain-computer science and technology, commercial artificial intelligence, digital trade, digital finance and embodied intelligence (AI for robots). Embodied intelligence will first be offered by nine top universities, including Harbin Institute of Technology and Beihang University.

Our partner Tianjin University is one of the universities with a newly approved brain-computer science and technology major. Universities announce separately when, and in which language, new programmes open to international students, so keep an eye on their university pages for the latest programme lists.
